Waumba Land has been an answer to my family’s prayers since 2019. We started in Waumba Land when our oldest son was just an infant, and the volunteers and staff have now played pivotal roles in sparking a love for Jesus in both our 5-year-old son’s life and our 3-year-old daughter’s life.
Waumba Land became a special safe haven to us about 3 years ago when we first noticed our son was displaying non-typical behaviors. He struggled in every school setting, and we had a fear that he would struggle in a church classroom the same way he was struggling in the school classrooms.
However, Waumba Land never batted an eye at David’s non-typical behaviors; instead they showed love and compassion to him that we had never experienced anywhere else. The directors, Amber and Kim, met me with such kindness and understanding, and they paired David with his Buddy volunteer, Mr. Brent. In just a short time, Mr. Brent became David’s best friend! The two of them have formed the most meaningful and special relationship, and David’s love for Church can be directly attributed to the love that Mr. Brent has shown our son!
As parents of a neurotypical child, we have so many fears and struggles when it comes to introducing him to different environments, but the Waumba Land staff, Mr. Brent, and all of the volunteers that have impacted our children, have really made us feel as though we have a second family and home at Woodstock City Church.
We can never fully express the gratitude and love that we have for Mr. Brent and Waumba Land, but we hope that they know our love for them every time they see David, and our daughter Grace, running into the halls of Waumba Land every Sunday morning! Thank you, from the bottoms of our hearts!
You are Made For More, too. Volunteering in our church is one way you can discover the more you are made for. Ready to find out what you were made for?
